Great British Railways goes to Tara

The very popular Great British Railway Journey television documentary turns its attention to Irish railways this week, and The Discovery Programme’s research at the Hill of Tara is under the spot light on 18 January 2017 at 6.30 on BBC2. Dr Roseanne Schot, Project coordinator of the Tara Project explained the programme of research being carried out on the site and demonstrated some of the survey methods. Michael Portillo, the programme’s presenter, tried his hand at some gradiometry survey.

Dr Mairéad Carew, author of the recently published Tara: The Guidebook introduced Michael Portillo to the site and controversial excavations by the British Israelites at the end of the nineteenth century.
