3D model of solstice at Newgrange
The Discovery Programme: Centre for Archaeology and Innovation created a 3d model of the passage at Newgrange. Seán Doran, an artist, animated this model to recreate the solstice at Newgrange. At sunrise on December 21st, the winter solstice or shortest day of the year, sunlight shines through the light box at the entrance to the passage tomb at Newgrange. As the shaft of light moves down along the passage it highlights the rock art carved on the massive stones along its length.
