Minister Humphreys Visits Clones

Minister Heather Humphreys TD  met Dr Edel Bhreathnach CEO and Discovery Programme surveyors Rob Shaw and Gary Devlin during recent 3D recording at the high cross at Clones. The sandstone high cross is mid-ninth century in date and features depictions of a number of biblical scenes, including ‘Daniel in the Lions’ den’, ‘The Sacrifice of Isaac’, ‘Adam and Eve/ The Fall of Man’, ‘ The Adoration of the Magi’, ‘The Wedding at Cana’ and ‘The Loaves and Fishes ‘. The east and west side of the cross feature interlaced design that was common on crosses of this period.  The aim of this  project is to record the detail of these depictions and  designs, creating a permanent record and facilitating analysis of possible weathering. The data will be viewable over the coming weeks on 3dicons.ie.
